Original Item: The M1 machine gun cleaning rod was originally issued before WW2 and continued in use for many years. It consisted of a swiveling cast handle with attached rod segment, an intermediate rod segment, and a terminal rod segment with a slot for cleaning patches. The terminal segment was also threaded for bore brushes. The Case, Cleaning Rod, M1 was issued in olive drab canvas and in khaki canvas. In addition to the three slots for the cleaning rod, it was equipped with a pocket for bore brushes.
